Family Laridae

Originally the terns, noddies and skimmers were classified in families of their own but genetic evidence placed them with the gulls. While often associated with the sea shore many seagulls have adapted to a life inland. Intelligent and adaptable, gulls have spread around the world. There are currently around 100 species in 22 genera.
