Family Plakobranchidae- Seaslugs

The Plakobranchidae is a family of marine gastropod mollusks. Although they superficially resemble nudibranchs they are not closely related. Members of the genus Elysia were formerly classified in their own family - Elysiidae - but are now subsumed by the family Plakobranchidae. The elysiids are members of the sap-sucking slugs - the sacoglossans. Several members of the genus feed on algae and are able to line their digestive tract with live chloroplasts which allows the slugs to survive on their photosynthetic by-products for months at a time.
